I just couldn't get the sound of little Ronny Howard out of my head today as we drove by Gary, Indiana. Alas, it wasn't at all like I thought it would be (I think the song lied to me). It turns out Gary is dominated by big old ugly steel mills. And y'know, I completely forgot when we were passing by that Gary was where Michael Jackson was born!
We crossed into Illinois just before we drove into Chicago. We had no particular destination in mind and no idea where we were going, so we just drove around a bit, gawking at the buildings.
We stopped to fill up at a gas station and Husband asked for directions to Wrigley Field. He got four different answers, plus one guy even offered to come in our car with us to show us the way! (We never did find Wrigley Field.)
We stopped for the night in La Crosse, Wisconsin (elcome to Wisconsin!).

We spent some time this morning in historic downtown La Crosse. What a charming place.
La Crosse is home to the world's largest 6-pack!
Just outside of La Crosse we crossed the mighty Mississippi River and then — boom! — we were in Minnesota.
We wandered around in Rochester, Minnesota for awhile, searching for a Target Store, and we stumbled upon the Mayo Clinic! We had no idea it was even there.
This evening we crossed yet another state line, this time into South Dakota. We decided to stay the night in Sioux Falls.

Fun, fun, fun!
great photos.
I once had a sucker fish (I don't know what they're really called, but they're the ones who keep your tank clean by sucking all the scum off the glass.) that I named Gary Indiana. All I ever heard about the place is that it sucks, so I thought it a fitting name.
You all are doing some ridiculous mileage per day!
You guys are covering a lot of miles!
Before we left home, we had no concept of how much driving was really involved! If we did I don't think we would have attempted such an ambitious trip. Next vacation we're definitely flying!!
Andi: When it comes to naming goldfish, you have mad skills. You gave us all the giggles!
